Hola Mad Mex!

November 2007

Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill opened its doors for business on Monday 19 November, introducing a new style of cuisine to Australia — Baja-Mexican.  Appropriately opening on the eve of the Dia de la Revolucion (the Mexican Revolution), Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill offers Sydney-siders gourmet made-to-order burritos, tacos, nachos, fajitas and quesadillas combined with quick service, giving Mexican food lovers a new and vibrant dine-in or take-away option.

Eat-in or take-away food items range from $2 to $12.95, and the fully licensed venue also offers signature $8 margaritas made with Herradura Tequila or buckets of ice cold Coronas for $22.

Owners Clovis and Angela Young open the doors of Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill with ambitious plans for expansion throughout 2008.  The Youngs have enlisted the talents of world-renowned chef Rafael Nazario (Sydney’s Guzman y Gomez, Puerto Vallarta’s Daiquiri Dicks, and Los Angeles’ 72 Market St, Maple Drive and Hugos) to create the fully customisable menu, allowing patrons to individualise their choices to suit their tastes.  Low-fat, low-carb, dairy-free or gluten-free requirements are easily catered to, allowing all customers the opportunity to enjoy the bold and exciting flavours of Mad Mex.

“Mad Mex offers gourmet, healthy food served quickly and we’re confident that Australians will enjoy what Baja-Mexican cuisine has to offer,” said Clovis Young.  “At Mad Mex we believe that just because you want a fast meal, you should never sacrifice quality.”

Mad Mex’s interiors were custom-designed Giant Designs — the same group responsible for Sydney eateries Kobe Jones, Rocks Teppanyaki and Buddha Boy.  Holy Cow! Design & Advertising created the overall brand identity and environmental graphics featured in the restaurant, with the Mad Mex lucha libre (or Mexican wrestler) character at its core.  With its state-of-the-art open plan kitchen and dining areas accented by original artwork, a Corona-bottle chandelier and communal indoor and outdoor tables, Mad Max sets a new standard in the fast-casual dining marketplace and offers its customers a vibrant inner-city dining experience.

“The holistic approach of integrating graphic and interior design has really made a difference with this flagship store,” commented Clovis Young.  “The environment is fun and exciting, and the food is fresh and healthy. We think that’s a perfect combination.”

Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill only uses top quality meats, produce and condiments in its food.  The full range of salsas, guacamole and roasted, slow-cooked and grilled meats and beans are prepared on-site daily, complemented with imported Mexican chillis and tomatillos for a truly authentic flavour.  All meats are AUSMEAT or export grade cuts, and chicken products are all free-range, hormone-free and chemical-free.
