Once you are part of the Mad Mex familia, you never want to leave – we’re such a welcoming and warm group! One of our superstars in the business development team, Roshan Koirala, recently made the decision to leave the team… but it was to set up our amazing new restaurant in Hurstville, Sydney!
Taking the step from employee to entrepreneur is certainly a big and bold one – as bold as our flavours! – so we are naturally over the moon that Roshan would put his faith in Mad Mex for the support that we offer our franchisees.
And it means that there is now a restaurant in bustling Hurstville for our amigos to come to when they crave some authentic Mexican to refuel!
We sat down to chat with Roshan about why he made the big move, and the high hopes that he has for his new business.
What inspired you to step out and become a franchisee?
Honestly, it really does come down to how much I love for the brand and its ability to meet my passion and deliver the best in what I have in me. Having worked in the industry for a long time I always knew that at some stage I’d want to step out and give entrepreneurship a go myself, and it was clear that Mad Mex was the brand to do it.
It also helps that I love the food so much!
What was the appeal in ‘setting up shop’ in Hurstville?
I’ve spent a lot of time in Hurstville, of course, and I love people in the area. It’s also a real foodie’s paradise, and Mad Mex has wanted to be a part of that scene for a long time. We’ve been given every signal that people want us there – before we even opened! – so I thought it was a great opportunity for me.
You obviously love Mad Mex! What is it about the company that has kept you with them, both as employee and now franchisee?
A big part of it is the familia. The people in this company, and the love and respect they show for each other, the customer, and the food, is inspiring. And then, of course, there are the business considerations. I did my due diligence, and Mad Mex has a great franchise model, along with strong systems and operations that appeal to me as a franchisee. Having been in operations I can see how well the systems and the model works, and I wanted to be a part of that.
What are your long-term goals with Mad Mex and your restaurant?
That would be telling! Check back with me in a year… but of course there is a big appeal in being a multi-site franchisee!
What would you recommend the people of Hurstville try first when they drop in to say hello?
Talk about saving the hardest question for last! I love all the items and I would recommend them all in a heartbeat. But a good “starting point” with Mexican is, of course, the iconic Nachos. Also, if I can make a request, when you do drop in to the restaurant, be sure to say hi and share some feedback – more than anything else, I love hearing what other people love about Mad Mex and Mexican food!
