What A Career At Mad Mex Looks Like

Andrew Blog

One of the things we love about the Mad Mex familia is the number of people that stick with us for the long term, and build their careers with us. We like to think that this is one of the things that helps us serve the best Mexican food in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and everywhere else in Australia: our people are driven and love Mad Mex as much as our customers do!

One great example of this Andrew Burge. He’s been with us for 13 years! In that time, he started as part of our corporate team, but decided that he wanted to break out on his own and run a franchise restaurant in the picturesque Bateau Bay, on the Central Coast of NSW.

In his own words, that was quite the scary step! “I had to make sure my family was on board with this opportunity – to take on my own restaurant and work for myself – which they were!” Andrew told us. “The idea of not working in my corporate role anymore and no longer working closely with my colleagues and friends was also quite challenging.”

But already the brave move has paid off, he added. “To be honest, the Bateau Bay restaurant is in very good shape as it is only 12 months old,” he said. The experience that he has had in working with Mad Mex for 13 years has certainly helped to ensure the success of his own restaurant, he added. “I was a Business Manager in Tuggerah for many years as well as Kotara, up until recently I have been a Multi-Site Manager of six restaurants on the Central Coast and Newcastle areas being responsible for day-to-day operations and training. During my time with the company, I have helped open numerous Mad Mex restaurants across our network, trained Franchisees, and their staff to
successfully open and manage their own businesses.”

Andrew has always loved hospitality and the QSR space in particular. His career started in McDonald’s, before spending time working in casual dining restaurants, roadhouses, and cafes. This eventually led him to Mad Mex, where, he said, he has found a true home and familia.

“I love the way we are like one big Familia, and everyone is there to support one another each day. I believe we have the best Mexican food in Sydney and regional NSW, with big, bold, and authentic flavours, available in fast casual dining experience. I love seeing our customers enjoying their meals and especially seeing them return time and time again.”

And, of course, Andrew himself loves Mad Mex! Nothing beats a naked chicken burrito with medium salsa and the iconic freshly made guac.

We’re always on the look-out for talented and driven people to join the Mad Mex familia, both in corporate and as Franchisees. As Andrew demonstrates, we offer careers and opportunities that are hard to top. Head on over to our jobs page, or franchise information page, to learn more!
